- falls prevention
- how to maintain strength and balance
- the benefits of post-illness exercise
- general health and well-being
- exercise classes
If you are unable to get into SYCIL the Physiotherapist may be able to carry out home visits, and also has the opportunity of referring people to the day hospital at Tickhill Road Hospital if needed.
Service Aims
The aim is to give disbled people, older people and peole with long term conditions the best quality and standard of service, providing public health education / promotion and exercise classes as well as the more traditional physiotherapy support. Department of Health NICE Guidelines state that falling is a serious and frequent occurrence in people aged 65 and over. Each year 35% of over-65s experience one or more falls. About 45% of people aged over 80 who live in the community fall each year. Between 10 and 25% of such fallers will sustain an injury. The Falls Prevention Service offered by SYCIL is fully accessible and can help prevent future falls and hopefully decrease the number of admissions into hospital.
